Salt Lake City has a rich arts and cultural heritage. A new state-of-the-art theater is being planned to revitalize the performing arts of the city. The new Utah Performance Center on Main will be a key component of the cultural district in the heart of downtown. The premier theater will draw first-run touring Broadway shows and national music and comedy acts, and will provide an additional venue for Utah’s own beloved performing arts groups.

The Gateway district, a major outdoor lifestyle center offers movie theaters, the Clark Planetarium, an IMAX theater, the Children’s Discovery museum and shopping. The Gateway center also houses many diverse restaurants to enjoy. Neighborhoods throughout the Downtown District boast many local coffee shops, an assortment of restaurants, bookstores, and destination shopping.
Salt Lake City’s Main Public Library was voted Library of the Year in 2006. Inside the beautifully designed building, you will find many retail and artist shops. In addition, Library Square boasts several local stores and features many diverse festivals during the summer months.
Salt Lake City is home to the NBA’s Utah Jazz professional basketball team. You can catch a game at the EnergySolutions Arena. Salt Lake City is also host to the Bees Triple A baseball team.
The state’s Capital City is surrounded with natural beauty. Just minutes outside of downtown you will find City Creek Canyon. Beautiful and challenging walking, running and mountain biking trails make up this canyon which borders the City. The Jordan River Trail offers a scenic path featuring wetlands with cattails, many kinds of fish, foxes and other mammals, plus a variety of bird life. The Jordan Trail includes sections that are paved for walking and biking, along with canoe marinas, park benches, and picnic tables.
Public transit is versatile and accessible in Salt Lake City. The light rail system, TRAX, makes travel throughout downtown simple and convenient. The TRAX system is also coupled with many public bus lines making any destination reachable. An airport TRAX line will soon be available for travelers coming to or leaving from the City.
If traveling by car, there are many natural sites not far from Salt Lake City. Thirteen national parks are within reach on just a day’s drive, including Bryce Canyon, the Grand Canyon, Arches, or Yellowstone.
Recently Salt Lake City was named the “Fittest City in America” by Men’s Fitness Magazine. Salt Lake was named one of the “Top 20 Sustainable Cities” by the Our Green Cities Initiative. Salt Lake City was named, for the third year in a row, by American Style magazine as a “Top 25 Arts Destination” in the midsized city category. Salt Lake City offers a wide array of entertainment options in close proximity to many mountain trails and nature escapes.
